Updates of how our International BTD20 crawler restoration is going, week 2…
Ok, ok we know technically we should now be on week 3 of the restoration, however as the workshop was so busy the previous week we didn’t even get chance to look at the BTD20! So if you can forgive us, we will call this week, week 2!
Main reason for transmission repair work is this bevel gear pinion shaft with damaged teeth. Probably due to low oil levels.
Preparing steering clutch for removal.
After a struggle, the clutch is removed in order to replace the oil seal, which is directly attributable to bevel gear damage.
Main gearbox is suprisingly free of wear or damage, not bad for 40yrs of service!
The offending oil seal – took 8 hours of disassembly to get to it!
Hopefully next weeks restoration work will go ahead as normal! So please check back next week to see how we are getting on.
