International BTD20 Crawler Restoration – Week 5

March 1, 2010

It’s been a bustling hive of activity at Walker Plant Head Quarters so not much of the restoration done this week, but it’s amazing what can be achieved in an afternoon!

BTD20 Restoration

Pinion shaft removed at long last and, although a bit rusty, is found to be in good condition.

That’s all for week 5!¬†I know we keep saying how busy we are in the Walker Plant workshop and it’s all a bit mysterious, but our workshop manager has agreed to share some of the other projects on “newer” machines that we currently have ongoing! He’s gone into the workshop armed with a digital camera and will hopefully come back with some very interesting stuff next week…

International BTD20 Crawler Restoration – Week 2

February 9, 2010

Updates of how our International¬†BTD20 crawler restoration is going, week 2…

Ok, ok we know technically we should now be on week 3 of the restoration, however as the workshop was so busy the previous week we didn’t even get chance to look at the BTD20! So if you can forgive us, we will call this week, week 2!

Bevel Gear Pinion Shaft

Main reason for transmission repair work is this bevel gear pinion shaft with damaged teeth. Probably due to low oil levels.

Steering Clutch

Preparing steering clutch for removal.

Oil seal

After a struggle, the clutch is removed in order to replace the oil seal, which is directly attributable to bevel gear damage.

Main Gearbox

Main gearbox is suprisingly free of wear or damage, not bad for 40yrs of service!

oil seal disassembled

The offending oil seal – took 8 hours of disassembly to get to it!

Hopefully next weeks restoration work will go ahead as normal! So please check back next week to see how we are getting on.
